The "Insider" - n.2

WP2 - Governance & WP3 - Policy

  • WP2 and WP3 had a very productive internal workshop with Carmela Asero, EC RTD A6 unit present. As a result coordinated timeline of WP2 and WP3 activities taking into account EC actiivties and timetable will be available, soon.
  • The stakeholder scoping activity is advancing well. We aim at having high level summary of the EOSC governance framework draft ready by EOSC summit (June 9) to be presented in there.
  • Sub task on business models have also begun their activities.
  • The EOSCpilot Governance Development Forum (EGDF) was launched in the beginning of April with the first webinar. The next webinar will take place on May 4, at 14:00 CEST.
  • A set of EGDF workshops to engage different stakeholder groups in the discussion and design of the EOSC governance framework is being planned. This first workshop targeting ERICs and research infrastructures in general will take place in Helsinki on May 9. More about EGDF at http://eoscpilot.eu/about/governance

WP5 - Services

  • All activities on EOSC Architecture, EOSC Service portfolio, EOSC Service management framework en EOSC Service pilots have started. Inventory work is currently being performed.
  • For the EOSC service pilots, the various Science Demonstrators have been analysed with respect to their service and infrastructure requirements, and service resources for the execution of the science demonstrators are currently searched for among the EOSCpilot partners.

WP6 - EOSC Interoperability

  • The interoperability work package has been focusing on preparing the gap analysis on interoperability of computing infrastructures. We prepared a questionnaire that is going to be distributed to the shepherds of the science demonstrators (see WP4) and to e-infrastructures in Europe.
  • To have another use case to study the challenges when combining computing infrastructures, WP6 will start a pilot project to use a Tier-1 centre together with a regional data centre. A technical note describing this activity is in preparation and will be circulated in order to integrate additional partners from within the EOSC pilot project. On the aspect of data interoperability the activities were focused on the first part of the FAIR principle, i.e. on the findability of data.

WP7 - Skills

  • In WP7 we are continuing with the skills landscape review that will inform skills development in the EOSCpilot. The analysis involve identifying the kinds of training resources and skills development activities that Science Demonstrators need in order to have the desired impact. In addition, the review will advise a skills development strategy to inform the broader needs of EOSC. The scope of the analysis is shaped by competence areas adapted from the Edison project, and selection criteria.
  • We are also preparing for our first internal Skills Requirements workshop that will take place on the 17th of May in Amsterdam. The workshop will consolidate results of initial landscape analysis and requirements gathering, and contribute substantially to D.7.1, which reports on those tasks and provides the first draft of a competence model for Data Stewardship and Data Management.
