EOSC and Science Demonstrator - Strengthening their relationship
The importance role of Science Demonstrators
The Science Demonstrators play an essential role in the European Open Science Cloud: throughout the EOSCpilot project, as early adopters of the EOSC services they provided feedback on its candidate service portfolio from a range of science areas. Moreover, they stimulated the engagement of the science communities and stakeholders in Open Science, by building on the expertise of the research infrastructures and their service providers.
The input provided by the 15 selected Science Demonstrators has been taken into account to drive and prioritise the integration of the candidate EOSC services to meet the functional and non-functional needs of researchers and to ensure that governance structures provide the guidelines needed by researchers.
The essential findings and requirements from the experience of the Science Demonstrators include various recommendations. They start with the requisite of a close and continuous collaboration between EOSC and the active research communities. The suggestions follow with the need for high-level services for research end-users and easy access to large-scale resources and services. In addition to this, it is critical that domain-aware experts are available as support when using EOSC services. Last but not least, addressing the FAIR data principles depends on a community by community basis.
In Summary
The Science Demonstrators have provided an essential contribution to the objectives of EOSCpilot by providing relevant input and recommendations for the further development of EOSC to meet the functional and non-functional needs of the science communities, researchers and end users.
